Unable to detect Ethernet connection on DevKit

I recently upgraded to Beta 14.07 but after I upgraded the firmware, I was unable to detect the ethernet cable as being present when connected. The LEDs are not on, and when I issue an “ifconfig” the eth0 interface is not listed. Just the Local Loopback is listed. No issues before when using previous version of firmware.

This looks like a hardware issue at first glance, but I figured I’d ask on here just in case I am missing something.

Thanks!
Bryan

Hi Bryan,

Can you check if ‘HSICENABLE’ is enabled in AT commands?

at!custom?
!CUSTOM:
            ADBENABLE 0x01
            GPSENABLE 0x01
            HSICENABLE 0x01 <-- enabled

If not, do the following to enable it

at!unlock="A710"
at!custom="HSICENABLE",1

Enoch

I get an error back from at!unlock=“A710”…

Hi Nicolas,

Your at!custom? returns HSICENABLE which suggests that HSIC should be enabled.
What firmware version is currently running on your devices (run ‘ati’ in AT commands)?

Thank you,
Enoch

ati returns:

Can you try to upgrade to the latest firmware (Upgrade WP Series Firmware section from legato.io/legato-docs/14_10/ … 14_10.html)?

After the upgrade are you still unable to detect the Ethernet connection?
What happens if you run ‘ifconfig’? and ‘ifup eth0’?
Does the ethernet interface light up on the board?
Finally if none of these work, can you dump all the logs from ‘dmesg’ so I can take a look at what is going on

Thank you,
Enoch

Hi Nicolas,

Can you try setting up ecm (legato.io/legato-docs/14_10/ … _pusb.html) and use that to get the logs?

I’m glad you were able to get your device into ONLINE mode  . What method did you use to do so? at!gobiimpref?

Thanks,
Enoch

I got it, you will find enclosed.

Thanks
Nicolas

Hi Nicolas,

for some reason the log download is failing. Could you please retry to upload it and maybe put it on pastebin.com/ as an alternative, just in case

Thanks,
Bertrand

Ok, you can find it enclosed or if I have the same problem here: pastebin.com/TKvRfJMV

I perform more test with a colleague.
He has a dev kit working fine.

He uses my socket board with his WP7 and his dev kit, he has the same problem (no ethernet).
I use his socket board on my dev kit with my WP7, it works fine.

Could it be an HW problem?

Thanks
Nicolas

Hi,

Maybe.
Can you post pictures (both sides) of your socket-up board (not the whole dev-kit)?
On the bottom side of your socket-up board, can you zoom in the part of the PCB where “C301” and “U803” are print?

Jay

Here are the pictures of my socket board:

I look to my colleague’s one there are some differences.

Thanks
Nicolas

Hi,

One component is missing on your socket board: U803.

It is a voltage regulator which is used to power the Ethernet chipset.

Please check with your Sierra Wireless representative in order to replace your socket-up board.
